INVISIBLE MOSQUITOE PATCH:Introducing The Kit Patch That Makes You Invisible To Mosquitoes

The Kite Patch utilizes non-toxic compounds that prevent the mosquitoes from detecting the CO2 we emit, which is generally how they find human victims.

Olfactor Laboratories and the University of California at Riverside developed the Kite Patch with backing from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.

For many people around the world, mosquito bites mean a matter of life and death rather than just a minor annoyance, as malaria kills hundreds of thousands of people every year.

According to the World Health Organization, malaria from mosquito bites killed over 660,000 in 2010, but this number is suggested to have doubled in 2011, according to research published last year.

The UN is looking to eliminate the disease by 2015, and the Kite Patch’s ability to curb mosquitoes for up to 48 hours may help this cause.

Most deaths occur in children but a fifth also kill people aged 15 to 49, and they largely occur in central and western Africa, as well as South America and southeast Asia.

The Indiegogo campaign is looking to raise $75,000 to send 20,000 Kite patches for large-scale testing in Uganda, where malaria rates are over 60 percent.

“A child dies of the disease every minute of every day. Effective mosquito control can be the difference between life and death,” said Kite cofounder Torrey Tayenaka.

If you’re looking to contribute, $35 will send 10 patches to Uganda, and the good folks at Kite will send you 10 patches, as well.
