Some Of The Uses Of Salt You Probably Never Knew.

Salt is the most common and readily available nonmetallic mineral in the world. In fact, the supply of salt is inexhaustible(that why it's unbelievably cheap in the shops, lol).

Salt is produced from salt mines or by the evaporation of seawater or mineral-rich spring water in shallow pools. Its major industrial products are caustic soda and chlorine, and it is used in many industrial processes and in the manufacture of plastics, paper pulp and many other products.

As well as its use in cooking and at the table, salt is present in many processed foods. Too much sodium in the diet raises blood pressure and may increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes. The World Health Organization recommends that adults should consume less than 2,000 mg of sodium which is equivalent to 5 grams (that is one and a quarter teaspoon) of salt per day
For thousands of years, salt (sodium chloride) has been used to preserve food and for cleaning, and people have continued to rely on it for all kinds of nifty tricks. So here are some uses of which I can remember and share with you today:-

1. If you drop a whole egg on the floor, pour salt all over the egg, let it sit for awhile, then use dustpan, the egg will come right up, without all that mess.

2. Soak stained hankies in salt water before washing.

3. Sprinkle salt on your shelves to keep ants away.

4. Soak fish in salt water before descaling; the scales will come off easier.

5. Ever had an unwanted visits of slug and earthworm in you house?,salt can get rid.

6. Add salt to green salads to prevent wilting.

7. Test the freshness of eggs in a cup of salt water; fresh eggs sink;bad ones float.

8. Add a little salt to your boiling water when cooking eggs; a cracked egg will stay in its shell this way.

9. A tiny pinch of salt with egg whites makes them beat up fluffier.

10. Fire control:
Keep salt close to the stove for extinguishing grease fires. It will smother the fire, depriving it of oxygen and putting it out .

11. Oral care: Salt can be used to brush the teeth, relive sores and gets rid of odour,as well as keeping the mouth fresh .

12. Soak toothbrushes in salt water before you first use them; they will last longer.

13. Use salt to clean your discolored coffee or cooking pot.

14. Mix salt with baking soda to whiten you bathtub and toilet bowl.

15. Salt can be used to preserve any kind of meat or fish,in a case where it can't be frozen.
